Bearcats Successful at Lakefront Invitational Meet
MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Bearcat men's cross country team took seventh place out of 34 teams in the collegiate standings at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational Saturday in Chicago. The women took 18th place out of 35 teams in the women's collegiate division.
Chad Fowler (Sr., Kearney, Mo.) led the pack for the men, placing 28th overall among 514 runners in a time of 26:07. Jamison Phillips (Sr., Chesterfield, Mo.) followed Fowler in 33rd place in a time of 26:11, ending his three-week streak as the Bearcat men's leader. John Heil (Sr., Excelsior Springs, Mo.) crossed the finish line an instant later in 34th place in a time of 26:13.
Kyle Keraus (Sr., Garner, Iowa) took the fourth spot for the Bearcats, placing 64th overall in 26:40. Bryan Touney (Fr., Lake Lotawana, Mo.) slipped into the men's top five for the fourth week in a row, placing 72nd in a time of 26:46.
Ashley Grosse (Jr., Blue Springs, Mo.) led the women for the second time this season, placing 64th out of 560 runners in a time of 20:02. Megan Hamilton (Fr., Winfield, Iowa) finished in 108th place in 20:43 with Dia McKee (So., O'Fallon, Mo.) at her heels in 109th place, also in a time of 20:43.
Julie Toebben (So., Vichy, Mo.) took 129th place overall in 21:07, while Heather Brokaw (So., Lake St. Louis, Mo.) took 136th in a time of 21:10.
The harriers will be back in action Oct. 11 at the Concordia Invitational in Seward, Neb.
