
MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State University cross country teams traveled to Lincoln, Neb. Saturday to take part in the Woody Greeno/UNL Invitational.
The women took 15th out of 27 teams in the college division with 428 points. Ashley Grosse (Jr., Blue Springs, Mo.) came off the injured list to lead the Bearcats, placing 74th in the field of 254 runners. She ran a time of 24:53 in the 6K race, which was her first of the season after being sidelined with a broken wrist for the first two meets.
Heather Searls (Fr., Raymore, Mo.) finished in 94th place overall in a time of 25:14, while Megan Hamilton (Fr., Winfield, Iowa) rounded out the women's top three in 107th place. She ran the course in a time of 25:27.
The men placed 10th overall in the 30-team college division with 230 points. Jamison Phillips (Sr., Chesterfield, Mo.) led the men for the second week in a row, finishing 25th overall. He ran the 10K course in a time of 26:39.
Chad Fowler (Sr., Kearney, Mo.) followed in 35th place in a time of 26:53. Bryan Touney (Fr., Lee's Summit, Mo.) topped the Northwest freshman in 43rd place in a time of 27:01. John Heil (Sr., Excelsior Springs, Mo.) finished just seconds later in 50th place in a time of 27:09.
Both squads will return to the course Sept. 27 at the Doane College Invitational in Crete, Neb.
