Bearcat Men Third, Women Fifth at Mule Run
MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State University cross country teams started the competitive season Friday night at the Central Missouri State University Mule Run in Warrensburg.
The women took fifth place overall in the eight-team meet with a total of 99 points. They ran an average time of 16:54.98 on the 2.5 mile course. The CMSU Jennies won the meet with 31 total points.
Heather Searls (Fr., Raymore, Mo.) led the Bearcats in 11th place with a time of 16:20.90. Megan Hamilton (Fr., Winfield, Iowa) trailed Searls in 21st place with a time of 16:46.60, while Julie Toebben (So., Vichy, Mo.) finished in 23rd place in a time of 16:55.60. Dia McKee (So., O'Fallon, Mo.) took 28th place with a time of 17:09.60, and Kimberly Homan (Fr., Lee's Summit, Mo.) took 31st in 17:22.2 to round out the women's top five.
The men took third place in the seven-team meet with a total of 80 points. They ran an average time of 21:17.54 on the four-mile course. The Mule Track Club won the meet with 30 points.
Jamison Phillips (Sr., Chesterfield, Mo.) led the Bearcats in eighth place with a time of 20:52.5. Chad Fowler (Sr., Kearney, Mo.) finished in 11th place overall with a time of 21:02.10, while John Heil (Sr., Excelsior Springs, Mo.) crossed the line just seconds later in 16th place in a time of 21:05.90. Bryan Touney (Fr., Lee's Summit, Mo.) finished 23rd overall and fourth for the Bearcats in his first collegiate competition with a time of 21:30.60. Derrick Delanty (Sr., St. Joseph, Mo.) took 32nd place in a time of 21:56.60 to round out the men's top five.
The harriers will be back in action Sept. 20 at the Woody Greeno/UNL Open in Lincoln, Neb.
