
MARYVILLE, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State University women's track and field/cross country coach Vicki Wooton has announced the signing of Maudie Irsik (Liberty, Mo.) and Heather Searls (Raymore, Mo.) to national letters-of-intent.
Irsik is a two-time state cross country qualifier. She also helped lead her team to conference, district, and sectional championshpis as a freshman. As a junior, her Liberty High School squad also won a district title. In addition to her athletic succes, Irsik is also an outstanding student. She is a member of National Honor Society and has won her school's Academic Award three times.
"Mauide will be a strong addition to our cross country and track teams," Wooton said. "I feel that she will improve with added strength and base mileage. She had good speed and can run anything from 400 to 5,000 meters."
Searls served as team captain for a Raymore-Peculiar High School cross country team that won the Missouri State Championship during her junior season in 2001. She was a three-time state qualifier in cross country, including all-state honors during her sophomore season. Searls is also a four-time all-conference and all-country selection in cross country. She is a standout track athlete as well, qualifying for the KU Relays in both the two-mile run and the distance medley.
"Hopefully Heather can contiunue to lower her times in cross country," Wooton said. "She will defintely add depth to our young team. She will come in and have a chance to be in our top five in cross country."
Irsik and Searls will both be freshman at Northwest this fall.
