Men's Harriers 6th, Women 9th at Regional
WARRENSBURG, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State University's cross country teams wrapped up their seasons on Saturday at the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Championships.
The Bearcat men finished sixth in the region with 191 points. Abilene Christian won the regional championships with a perfect score of 15 points, while Missouri Southern was second. Truman, Central Missouri State and Emporia State were third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
For Northwest, John Heil paced the Bearcats with a 25th-place finish. He ran the 10-kilometer course in 34 minutes, 18.8 seconds. Kyle Keraus was Northwest's number-two runner at 34:53.3. Chad Fowler, Jamison Phillips and Kyle Daily rounded out the Bearcats' scoring.
In the women's race, Northwest was ninth. Pittsburg State won the regional championship with 48 points. Central Missouri State was second, while MIAA members Missouri Southern, Truman, Southwest Baptist and Emporia State were fourth, fifth, sixth and eighth, respectively. Northwest's 235 points were just 17 more than Emporia's eighth-place total of 218.
Dia McKee was the Bearcats' top runner. She covered the six-kilometer course in 24:31.5. Jessica Lane was Northwest's next finisher at 51st in a time of 25:39.0. Jessica Montesano was 64th, while Rachel Jenkins was 65th and Julie Toebben finished 66th to wrap up the Bearcats' scoring.
