
EMPORIA, Kan. – The Northwest Missouri State University men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the Jock’s Nitch Invitational, hosted by Emporia State, Saturday.
The Bearcat women finished third in the nine-team field, while the Northwest men were seventh in a field of 10 teams.
For the women, Dia McKee (Fr., O’Fallon, Mo.) led the way with a 12th-place finish on the five-kilometer course. She turned in a time of 19 minutes, 45 seconds.
Toni Sexton (Fr., Excelsior Springs, Mo.) was the second best Bearcat. Her time of 20:02 was good enough for 16th. Jessica Montesano (So., Kansas City, Mo.) was also in the top 20 for Northwest, finishing 20th.
On the men’s side, Chad Fowler (Jr., Kearney, Mo.) was the pacesetter for Northwest. He finished in 15th place with a time of 26:24 over the eight-kilometer race. Kyle Keraus (Jr., Garner, Iowa) was 18th in a clocking of 26:34.
Both teams were without a few of their top runners. For the women, Ashley Grosse (So., Blue Springs, Mo.) and Betsy Lee (Jr., Lawrence, Kan.) were both out. For the men, John Kasoa (Sr., Makueni, Kenya) and Ezrah Busieney (Jr., Nairobi, Kenya) did not compete.
