Women's Harriers 8th, Men 12th at Nebraska
LINCOLN, Neb. - The Northwest Missouri State University women's cross country team picked up an eighth-place finish among 25 teams at the Woody Greeno/University of Nebraska Invitational Saturday afternoon. The Bearcat men finished 12th in a field of 20.
In the women's race, Wartburg College took first place with a tally of just 34 points. Central Missouri State was fifth with 194, while Northwest was eighth with 330. The other MIAA team in the race, Emporia STate, finished 16th with 415 points.
Individually, Northwest was paced by Dia McKee (Fr., O'Fallon, Mo.), who covered the 6000-meter course in 24:11.39. McKee finished 54th. Ashley Grosse (Soph., Blue Springs, Mo.) was second for Northwest and 64th overall in a time of 24:23.27. Betsy Lee (Jr., Lawrence, Kan.) was the only other Bearcat in the top 100.
For the Bearcat men, their eighth-place finish came behind three other MIAA rivals. Truman State won the meet with 114 points, while Central tied for second at 125. Emporia State finished seventh with 218 points, just ahead of Northwest. The Bearcats tallied 261 points enroute to eighth place.
John Heil (Jr., Excelsior Springs, Mo.) led the way for the Bearcat men. He finished 42nd in a time of 26:37.21 over the 8000-meter course. John Kasoa (Sr., Makueni, Kenya) was 45th in a time of 26:42.26. Jamison Phillips (Jr., Chesterfield, Mo.) was third for Northwest and finished 93rd in a time of 27:28.29.
Both the Northwest men and women will be back in action again Saturday at the Missouri-Rolla Invitational.
