
MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State University men’s and women’s cross country teams opened their seasons Saturday at College Park on the Northwest campus.
The top finisher for Northwest in either race was Bryce Good (Jr., Ankeny, Iowa), who finished fifth for the Bearcat men. Good ran the six-kilometer race in a time of 21:10.4
Jamison Phillips (Fr., Chesterfield, Mo.) was 14th for Northwest. Danny Burns (Fr., Marshalltown, Iowa) was 15th. Sean Berger (Fr., York, Neb.) finished in the top 20 for Northwest, taking 17th. Brad Chellew (So., St. Joseph, Mo.) was 20th.
For the Northwest women, Ashley Grosse (Fr., Blue Springs, Mo.) was the top runner. She finished 16th in a time of 17:06.2.
Kim Scarborough (Sr., Omaha, Neb.) was the only other Bearcat woman in the top 20, taking 18th. Betsy Lee (So., Lawrence, Kan.) finished 30th, while Rachel Jenkins (Sr., Ottumwa, Iowa) was 32nd. Jessica Montesano (Fr., Kansas City, Mo.) took 34th. Rachel Starks (Fr., Odessa, Mo.) and Heidi Baker (Jr., Savannah, Mo.) were 37th and 40th, respectively. Jessica Lane (So., Auburn, Neb.) finished 41st for Northwest.
The meet was unscored in the college division. The university division was scored, with Nebraska winning the men’s race over Creighton. For the women, Creighton won the meet, topping Drake and Nebraska.
The Bearcat cross country teams will be back in action again Friday at the CMSU Mule Run in Warrensburg, Mo.
