Minutes
January 8, 2009
Board Members Present: Pat Haynes, Jon Baldwin, Steve Sutton, Darin Loe, John VanCleave, Jim Goecken, Dan Edmonds, Linda Girard, Allison Strong, Rob Rice, Teri Harr, Ray Courter, John Yates; ex-officio: Mark Clements, Bob Boerigter, Stephanie Martin; guest: Tracy Cross (Soccer), Darin Loe (Baseball)
Vice-President Baldwin called the meeting to order.
Goecken motioned and VanCleave seconded to accept the minutes from the November 13, 2008 meeting, motion carried; Sutton motioned and VanCleave seconded to accept the treasurer's report which was reported by Clements as: $32,109.96 in General and $38,929.06 in Transportation; motion carried.
Old Business -
A. Baseball Request - Loe made a request for a Programmable Pitching Machine (Sports Machines is the sole vendor);$6300 plus $300 shipping and $320 for machine baseballs plus $30 for shipping and handling for a total of $6950; the request was made to not purchase the pitching machine that was approved at the November 13, 2008 meeting
New Business -
A. Soccer Request - Coach Cross made a request for a pair of Coerver Coaching Training Goals along with two pairs of All-Surface Conversion Kit for a total of $2020 plus shipping - estimate need of $2300
Athletic Director Report - Boerigter reported that the MIAA group has met since the last Booster meeting and the NCAA Convention will be held in Washington DC next week; the plan is to increase the Spring Baseball Tournament from 4 to 6 teams, hopefully by Spring 2009 otherwise Spring 2010; there is a membership vote in front of the Conference to add Lincoln, but not enough CEO's available to vote next week; Newman University (Wichita, KS) is showing an interest in our conference; student athletic average GPA was 2.85 for Fall 2008 - 53 had a 3.5 GPA for the trimester; NCAA Leadership Seminar - Laura Atkinson and LeRon Council will attend with Morris White in February
Action Items -
A. Baseball Request - Rice motioned and Yates seconded to provide $6950 for the purchase of a Programmable Pitching Machine, machine baseballs and shipping, motion carried
B. Soccer Request - Edmonds motioned and Harr seconded to provide up to $2320 for the purchase of Training Goals and All-Surface Conversion Kit, motion carried
Edmonds motioned and Strong seconded to adjourn. Motion carried. Next meeting is February 12, 2009.
