Dr. Bob Boerigter has served as Director of Athletics and HPERD (Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance) at Northwest since May 2001.
Dr. Boerigter came to Northwest from Hastings (Neb.) College, where he served a 13-year stint as Director of Athletics, Chair of Physical Education and Professor of Physical Education. Prior to his tenure at Hastings College, he held administrative and coaching positions at Adams State in Alamosa, Colo.; Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa; and Whitworth College in Spokane, Wash.
As the leader of the Bearcat Athletics Department, he oversees Northwest's 16 intercollegiate sports. During his tenure, he has provided direction for several facility and programmatic changes and improvements. Dr. Boerigter administered the initial "Clash of the Champions" at Arrowhead Stadium. Now known as the "Fall Classic," that game set an NCAA Division II single-game attendance record of 26,695 in Octover 2002 and it has served as a model that other Division II programs have since emulated.
A former National Athletics Admistrator of the Year, Dr. Boerigter was the past chairman of the NCAA Division II National Football Committee and is a member of the Division II Athletic Directors Association Executive Committee.
Dr. Boerigter holds a bachelor's degree from Northwestern College (Iowa). He received his master's degree from the University of Northern Colorado and his doctorate from the University of Utah.
Dr. Boerigter and his wife, Mary, have two grown sons, John and Marc, and one granddaughter.
