Baseball set for Opening Day in Arkansas
MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State baseball team will take the field for the first time in 2013 as they take on the University of Arkansas at Monticello for a three game set starting Friday.
Northwest is coming off an 18-32 season in 2012 where they went 17-23 in MIAA play narrowly missing the MIAA Tournament.
The Bearcats return many of their offensive leaders from last season and among those include 2013 National Collegiate Writers Association Division II preseason All-Region selections Eric McGlauflin and Ryan Abernathy.

Northwest also returns the team’s leading home run hitter in Eric Swain who had 10 round trippers in 2012 to earn Honorable Mention All-MIAA honors. Swain also led the team with 109 total bases and was the only Bearcat to reach the 100 total base plateau.
The Northwest pitching staff will lean on upperclassman Chase Anderson who returns with a number of underclassmen. Of the experience returning the Bearcats will look to improve on a team ERA of 5.92 that ranked seventh in an 11 team league last season.
Arkansas-Monticello (1-3) and Northwest have met on two previous times in a double header in 2008 which saw the Bearcats sweep the series. First pitch is set for Friday at 1 p.m. Saturday is slated for a 1 p.m. start followed by the series finale on Sunday.
Northwest will host Nebraska-Kearney Feb. 20 in a double-header for its home opener.
