Gorillas power past 'Cats

Game 1 l Game 2

PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Pittsburg State Gorillas' bats were hot Saturday afternoon as they routed the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats 11-5 and 10-1 in a MIAA doubleheader.

Northwest fell to 14-26 on the season and 13-17 in MIAA play while the Gorillas improved to 16-23 overall and 12-18 in league play.

Game one would see the Gorillas come out swinging as they would plate four runs in the second and fourth innings to take an 8-0 lead.

The Bearcat bats came to life in the sixth as Cameron Bedard, Eric Swain and Eric McGlauflin would all record hits.  A Gorilla error would help plate four Northwest runs cutting the Gorillas’ advantage to four.

Pittsburg State’s bats would not be silenced as they plated three runs of their own in the sixth to up their lead to 11-4.

Northwest would attempt a rally in the seventh as Steven Garber would lead off with a single.  Jake Kretzer reached on a hit-by-pitch and Bedard followed with a single through the left side, his second hit on the game.  A Swain sacrifice fly would plate Garber but that would be as close as Northwest would get as the Gorillas would claim the 11-5 win.

On the mound, Chase Anderson recorded the loss for the Bearcats moving his record to 4-6 on the season.

Bedard and McGlauflin led the Bearcats offensively each recording two hits in the loss.

The Gorilla bats would stay hot in game two as they plated four runs in the first to jump out to the 4-0 lead.

Pittsburg State added runs in the third and fourth to up their advantage to 7-0.

The Bearcats got on the board in the fifth as Landinn Eckhardt and Cole Mapes each recorded hits.  A Gorilla error would plate Eckhardt.

Pittsburg State tacked on runs in the fifth, seventh and eighth pushing the Gorilla lead to 10-1.

Jace Anderson recorded the loss on the mound for Northwest.

Up Next: The Bearcats and Gorillas conclude their four-game series Sunday afternoon with first pitch from Al Ortolani Field slated for noon.
