Baseball to host “Military Tribute Day”

MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State baseball team will be honoring all military personnel with a “Military Tribute Day” this Saturday when they take on the Missouri Western State University Griffons.  First pitch from Bearcat Field is slated for 1 p.m.

The Bearcats will be wearing special camouflage tops when they take the field in the first game on their double-header Saturday afternoon paying tribute to all those who have served as well as who are still serving in the military.

The baseball team will also be paying tribute to former Bearcat baseball player and fallen Navy Seal Matt Mason.  Mason, a Clay County native, who was one of 37 military personnel killed in a helicopter crash in August of 2011 while serving in Afghanistan.  Mason left behind a wife and three children.

Several special activities are planned during pregame and all active duty and veterans of the military are encouraged to arrive early to participate in a pregame ceremony.  These honored guests are encouraged to meet at the third base dugout at approximately 12:45 p.m. to stand with the Bearcats during the National Anthem.

“We are extremely excited to honor our armed forces on Saturday,” said head coach Darin Loe.  “We are humbled by their constant sacrifices and are thrilled that we can support them in any way possible.”

The Bearcat baseball team would like to thank Brian Kever, John White Jon Henne Jr., Ryley Westman, Britt Westman, Bob Sundell, Darin Loe and a very special thanks to Bob Rice for making “Military Tribute Day” possible.

Free pizza, t-shirts and Bearcat baseball posters will be also given away while supplies last beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.  The series with the Griffons begins on Friday with a double-header beginning at 1:00 p.m.  Admission is free throughout the weekend.
