Abernathy named MIAA Baseball Student-Athlete of the Week

Kansas City, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State University sophomore Ryan Abernathy was named MIAA baseball student-athlete of the week for the week of Feb. 21-27 as announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Abernathy, the Bearcats' centerfielder, went 10-for-16 with four doubles, a triple and five RBIs on the Bearcats' trip to Oklahoma last weekend.  The Chesterfield, Mo. native finished the weekend with a .700 on-base percentage and a 1.000 slugging percentage.

For the season, Abernathy is hitting lead-off for Northwest and batting .467.  Abernathy leads the team with 14 hits and in runs scored with eight.

Northwest begins MIAA play this weekend as they travel to Hays, Kan. for a four-game series with the Fort Hays State Tigers.
