Rosales has huge day in Northwest sweep
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.-The Northwest Missouri State baseball squad swept Saturday's doubleheader with Lincoln. The Bearcats won game one 9-7 in eight innings and then won the night cap 7-4. Second baseman Alec Rosales went 5-for-9 on the day with two homers and six RBI's.
Rosales capped off Northwest's seven-run sixth inning with a two-run bomb in the first game. Northwest (19-26, 18-21 MIAA) entered the inning trailing 3-0. After Lincoln cut the Bearcat lead to 7-4, the Blue Tigers added three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game and send it into extras.
Rosales' third RBI of the game gave Northwest an 8-7 lead in the eighth and Nathanial Horton added an insurance run with an RBI single into center field. Jayson Huett slammed the door on a second Lincoln rally to pick up his seventh victory of the season. Josh Parrish got the no decision in the start for the Bearcats. Parrish pitched five and 2/3 innings and allowed two earned runs off of eight hits.
Alex Singleton went 2-for-4 with two runs in the victory. Jake Kretzer also came home twice in game one.
In game two, Northwest broke a 2-2 tie in the fourth inning with a two-run inning. Landinn Eckhardt's RBI double broke the tie and Kretzer's sacrifice bunt put the Bearcats up by two. Rosales gave Northwest an extra three runs of cushion when he homered in the seventh inning to right center field.
Singleton scored three more runs in the second game to add to his total on the day. Eric McGlauflin went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the night cap.
Chase Anderson had a solid performance for Northwest in picking up his third win of the season. Anderson pitched a complete game and allowed four runs (two earned) on seven hits while striking out six Blue Tigers.
Northwest will finish its four-game series with Lincoln on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
