MARYVILLE, Mo.-The Northwest Missouri State baseball team earned a pair of one-run victories on Saturday afternoon at Bearcat Field to sweep day two against Southwest Baptist and won the series against the "Purple" Bearcats 3-1. Scores on the day went 3-2 and 2-1.

In game one, Geno DeAngelis led the Bearcat offense going 2-for-3 with an RBI. DeAngelis' double in the first inning with two outs brought home Nathanial Horton and put Northwest (10-20, 9-15 MIAA) ahead early.

After Baptist (6-22, 5-21 MIAA) tied the game at 1-1 in the second inning, Northwest got an RBI from Alec Rosales in the fifth and one from Cameron Bedard in the sixth to take a 3-1 lead. Jayson Huett, who came on in relief of starter Nick Caldrone got his second win of the year. Huett pitched three innings and allowed one run on two hits while striking out four SBU batters.

Huett also stopped the Baptist rally in the seventh inning, striking out back-to-back batters to halt comeback and get the victory. Caldrone pitched four innings and gave up one run off of four hits in the start for the Bearcats.

Game two saw another solid pitching performance from a Northwest starter followed by Huett coming on in relief. Jeremy Tate made his first start of the season today for the Bearcats and got the win. Tate pitched seven and two-thirds of an inning and allowed just one run off of six hits and struck out four.

After Southwest Baptist took a quick 1-0 lead, Northwest knotted the game up at 1-1 with a DeAngelis ground out that scored Rosales. Horton gave Northwest the lead in the third inning when he singled to bring home Rosales for the second time in the game.

Rosales and Horton both collected two hits in game two and were the only Bearcats to hit safely in the win. Huett pitched one and one-third of an inning of relief to pick up his fifth save of the year. Huett didn't allow a base runner in his appearance.

Up next for the Bearcats will be a doubleheader on Tuesday against Nebraska-Omaha in Maryville. Game one will begin at 1 p.m.
