Bearcats take final game over Western
ST. JOSEPH, Mo.-The Northwest Missouri State baseball team got back on the winning tract on Sunday afternoon as the Bearcats won game four of their four-game series with rival Missouri Western. Northwest took the finale of the series 3-1.
Cameron Bedard's two-run single in the very first inning got Northwest (7-19, 6-14 MIAA) on the board early and ended up being all the Bearcats needed as they got a very solid pitching performance all-around in the victory.
Chris Green got the start for Northwest. Green pitched three innings and allowed no earned runs (one run) while giving up three hits. Aaron Amaral came on in relief of Green to pick up his first win of the season. Amaral pitched two and one-third of an inning and gave up just one hit.
Jayson Huett came on to nab his fourth save of the season. Huett pitched three and two-thirds of an inning and allowed no runs on four hits while striking-out four Griffon (13-11, 12-7 MIAA) batters.
Missouri Western would get its lone run in the second inning to cut the Bearcat lead in half, but Northwest responded in the top half of the third with an Evan Connell sacrifice fly that brought home Geno DeAngelis. DeAngelis scored two runs on the day.
Northwest returns to action this weekend as the Bearcats host a four-game set with Southwest Baptist. A pair of doubleheaders will be played in the series with the first coming on Friday. Saturday's doubleheader will be a part of the Northwest "Spring Showcase" as Northwest hosts softball that day, as well as the football spring game taking place that evening.
