Bearcats drop two to open MIAA schedule
WARRENSBURG, Mo.-The Northwest Missouri State baseball squad lost both games of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon against top-ranked Central Missouri in the MIAA opener for both teams. The Bearcats fell in game one 2-1 and dropped the second 13-3.
In game one the Bearcats got a solid pitching performance out of Chris Green. Green pitched five scoreless innings and allowed three hits while striking-out four. Jayson Huett was tagged with the loss after allowing the game-tying and game-winning runs in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively.
Northwest (0-7) got on the board first in the fourth when Landinn Eckhardt singled up the middle, bringing home Alec Rosales. The Mules (7-1) tied the game in the sixth and with the bases loaded and with one out in the seventh Nick DeBiasse doubled to left field to bring home Tyler Anthony.
In game two, Central scored four runs in two of the first three innings and jumped out to a 9-0 lead. The Bearcats scored three runs in the fifth inning, but that was as close as the Bearcats would get as the Mules responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth and another in the seventh.
Geno DeAngelis, Jake Kretzer and Rosales each had an RBI in the loss. Chase Anderson got the start for the Bearcats, pitching one and one-third of an inning and allowing five runs on four hits.
Northwest will finish its four-game series with Central tomorrow afternoon with another doubleheader beginning at noon.
