Bearcats Split With UNO on Day Two
OMAHA, Neb.-Landinn Echardt had five RBIs on the day as Northwest Missouri State split a doubleheader Sunday afternoon with Nebraska-Omaha. The Mavericks took the first game 13-5 and Northwest won the second 7-4.
In game one, UNO jumped out to an early 8-1 before Northwest would get a four-run fifth inning to cut the lead down to 8-5. That would be as close as the Bearcats would get as UNO tack on five more runs in the bottom of the sixth to widen its margin.
Cameron Bedard went 3-for-3 with two RBIs for the Bearcats in the loss. Matt Stice was 1-for-4 and belted his team-leading sixth home run of the season. Jon Henne Jr. was 2-for-3 in game one.
In game two Northwest would lead from start to finish as the Bearcats got a three-run first inning to jump on the Mavericks early. Echardt was 2-for-4 with four RBIs in the win. Brandon Kirsch was also 2-for-4 with an RBI. Trevor Conner was 1-of-3 with two runs scored.
In the second inning UNO would cut the Bearcat lead down to 3-2 before Northwest would add a run in the eighth and three more runs in the top of the ninth to take a 7-2 lead. Chase Anderson picked up the victory in the second game for the Bearcats. Anderson pitched six innings, allowing two runs on just three hits. Jayson Huett came-on to get the save for the Bearcats, his fourth of the season. Huett pitched three solid innings, allowing two runs on three hits and struck-out three.
Northwest (17-31, 15-19 MIAA) is a game behind Missouri Southern for sixth-place in the MIAA heading into the final week of the season. The top six finishers in the conference qualify for the MIAA tournament. The Bearcats finish their regular season at home with Washburn in a four-game series beginning Saturday at 1 p.m.
