Northwest Loses Two at Nebraska-Omaha
OMAHA, Neb.-The Northwest Missouri State baseball team dropped a pair of games Saturday afternoon on the road to Nebraska-Omaha. The Bearcats lost game one 8-1 and dropped the second game 11-1.
UNO's Joe Holtmeyer threw a no hitter in game one against the Bearcats. Holtmeyer struck-out 12 Northwest batters while walking four. Matt Stice provided the lone run for the Bearcats in the sixth inning as Landinn Echardt would drive him in with a sacrifice fly. Stice reached base after being hit by a pitch.
Game two did not go much better for the Bearcats as Northwest was defeated 11-1 in seven innings. Northwest would get on the board first as Stice drove in Cameron Bedard with a sacrifice fly RBI in the top of the third. After UNO would take the lead at 2-1, the Mavericks would get a seven-run fifth inning and added two more runs in the sixth.
Trevor Conner went 2-for-2 with a walk in the loss. Chris Green got the start on the mound for Northwest in game two. Green pitched four and two-thirds of an inning, giving up nine runs on 11 hits.
Northwest (16-30, 14-18 MIAA) will finish its four-game series with UNO on Sunday afternoon in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
