Bearcats Drop Non-Conference Tilt to Nebraska-Kearney
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State stepped away from MIAA play Tuesday afternoon as the Bearcats hosted Nebraska-Kearney at Bearcat Field in a nine inning game. Northwest dropped the game 11-2 to the Lopers.
Outfielder Brandon Kirsch made his first career start on the mound for the Bearcats. Kirsch pitched one and two-thirds of an inning, allowing three runs on three hits and striking out one batter. In all, the Bearcats would use eight pitchers in the ballgame.
Nebraska-Kearney used the strength of five home runs in the game to jump out to an early lead on the Bearcats and would get a five-run sixth inning after Northwest had cut the lead to 6-2. Nick Pfeiffer was a home run shy of the cycle in the loss for Northwest, going 3-for-5 in the game and scoring both of Northwest's runs. Matt Stice went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
The Bearcats (16-28) return to MIAA action this weekend as they travel to Omaha, Neb., to face Nebraska-Omaha in a very important four-game series for the Bearcats' MIAA tournament hopes. The series begins with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
