Bearcats Pick-Up Two Wins at Truman

Game One Box Score | Game Two Box Score

KIRKSVILLE, Mo-Northwest Missouri State won a pair of games Tuesday afternoon on the road at Truman. The Bearcats won game one 9-3 in eight innings, for their first extra-innings victory of the season, and took the second game 6-2.

After trailing early Northwest would battle back to take a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning. Although Truman would tie the game in the seventh, a pair of outstanding plays in the field by Nick Pfeiffer and Luke Lavicky preserved the tie for the Bearcats. In the eighth inning the Bearcat bats got to work as Northwest put together a six-run inning to push them ahead for the win.

Bryce McCrary went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored in the win. Cameron Bedard also was 3-for-4. Bedard would score three runs and drive in one in the victory. Joe Kankovsky, Pfeiffer, Lavicky and Evan Connell all added an RBI in the first game. Jayson Huett started for Northwest in the game, and earned a no decision. Huett went five and two-thirds of inning and gave up 10 hits and two earned runs while striking-out three Truman batters. Chris Green picked up the win for Northwest. Green, who is now 3-2, pitched two and a third innings of scoreless baseball in relief of Huett.

In game two Northwest found themselves trailing early again, until a four-run third inning would give the Bearcats the lead for good, as Northwest added two more runs in the seventh.

Joe Kankovsky went 2-of-4 with 2 RBIs and a run scored. Kreed Kurtz and Matt Stice each went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI and a run each. Stice would also add his fourth home run of the year, as Northwest maximized each of their five hits in the game. Chase Anderson made his first career start as a Bearcat. Anderson pitched a complete game, giving up two runs on five hits and striking-out three.

Next Northwest (8-25, 6-14 MIAA) will host Southwest Baptist this weekend in a four-game set beginning Friday at 1 p.m.
