Bearcats Drop a Pair of One-Run Games to Emporia State
MARYVILLE, Mo.-The Northwest Missouri State baseball squad lost a pair of one-run games Saturday afternoon against 10th-ranked Emporia State at Bearcat Field. Scores went 1-0 and 4-3.
In game one, Emporia State leadoff hitter Jeremy Francis hit a double to begin the game and would later come around to score in the inning, giving the game its lone run. Emporia State would only collect one more hit the rest of the game as Northwest's Chris Green was masterful on the mound. Green would pitch the full seven innings for the Bearcats, giving up three hits while striking-out seven and walking just one batter.
Matt Stice and Landinn Echardt would each go 2-for-3 in the game and Jon Henne Jr. would go 1-for-3, for Northwest's five hits.
In game two Emporia State would jump out to an early 3-0 lead until Luke Lavicky delivered a two-run single in the fourth inning with two outs, scoring Stice and Henne. After another Hornets' run, Henne would hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth, for his first long ball of the year, which cut the lead down to 4-3.
Neither team would score from there on out as Northwest could only collect one more hit the rest of the way. Henne went 2-for-4 in the game with two runs to go along with his homer. Stice and Trevor Conner would both go 1-of-4 in the loss.
Northwest drops its record to 5-24 overall and 3-13 in the MIAA. The Bearcats will finish their four-game series with Emporia State in a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon. Game one is set to start at noon.
