Northwest Picks Up First MIAA Win of the Season
HAYS, Kan.-Northwest Missouri State picked up its first MIAA win of the season Sunday afternoon as the Bearcats split a doubleheader against Fort Hays State, winning the first game 14-3 and losing game two 9-2.
In game one Northwest collected 12 hits as a team, including seven doubles, a triple and Trevor Conner hit his second home run of the year, as the Bearcats had back-to-back six-run innings in the win. Cameron Bedard, Jon Henne Jr., and Matt Stice all went 2-for-4 in the game and drove in one run or more. Six players for Northwest drove in runs in the win.
Jeremy Tate pitched a complete game for the Bearcats. Going seven innings, giving up three runs, one of them earned, on six hits and struck-out five batters.
In game number two collected nine hits but struggled to get runs in as Fort Hays State scored eight of its runs in a three-inning span.
Conner went 2-for-3 in the game with a run and an RBI. Henne Jr. went 1-for-3 with an RBI of his own. Kenny Brengle got the start on the mound for the Bearcats. Brengle went five innings giving up 10 hits and six earned runs while striking-out three Tigers.
Northwest (3-16, 1-7 MIAA) will travel to Nebraska-Kearney on Tuesday for a doubleheader. Northwest will resume conference play at home against Missouri Southern beginning Friday afternoon. It will be Northwest's first home series this season.
