Northwest Splits Wild Doubleheader With Arkansas Tech
Russellville, Ark.-Northwest Missouri State split a wild doubleheader on day number one Saturday afternoon in Russellville, Ark., against Arkansas Tech, Northwest dropped the first game to the Wonder Boys 21-13 and blanked Arkansas Tech in game number two, 8-0.
Northwest gave up a nine-run second inning and a seven-run third inning in the first game to find themselves trailing 17-4 after three. Although the Bearcats would battle back to out-score Arkansas Tech 9-4 in the final six innings, the lead was too great and they fell short.
Matt Stice led the Bearcat offense going 3-for-5, scoring three runs and driving in two. Trevor Conner and Nick Pfeiffer combined to go 3-of-9 with five runs, two walks and an RBI in the loss. Three different Bearcats drove in two runners in the loss. Aaron Amaral pitched 3 and one-third innings of relief for Jeremy Tate, who picked up the loss, Amaral gave up just one run and two hits in his appearance.
Game two went much better for Northwest as the Bearcats won game two handily as they blanked the Wonder Boys 8-0 despite getting just four hits. Conner and Evan Connell each had a pair of RBIs. Landinn Echardt scored two runs in the game. As seven Bearcats scored for Northwest in the victory.
Chris Green got his first win of the season on the hill for the Bearcats and the second shutout in the last three games for Northwest. Green went the distance giving up just one hit and one walk while striking out two. Northwest was also aided in the game by four errors by Arkansas Tech.
Northwest (2-7) will play a doubleheader for the second day against Arkansas Tech tomorrow. First pitch of game one is set for 1 p.m.
