Rough Fifth Inning Hurts Bearcats in Loss
PENSACOLA, Fla.-A nine-run fifth inning proved to be costly as Northwest Missouri State lost Tuesday afternoon to West Florida 12-1 in Pensacola, Fla. A Brandon Kirsch single in the first inning drove in Nick Pfeiffer to get the Bearcats on the board first with their lone run.
West Florida took the lead in the third inning with two runs and added another in the fourth before gathering six hits and driving in nine runs in the fifth to take a 12-1 lead.
Northwest was out-hit in the game 14-7 and left eight men on base. Zach Taylor led seven Argos that drove runners in, Taylor drove in three in the game. Landinn Echardt went 2-for-4 for the Bearcats and Joe Kankovsky was 1-of-2.
Chris Green got the start on the mound and went four-plus innings before being lifted in the fifth. Green gave up five runs on 10 hits and struck out two batters. Aaron Amaral and Nathanial Horton pitched three combined innings of shutout relief.
Northwest (0-3) will continue their series with West Florida tomorrow. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
