Northwest Baseball Announces Open Tryouts
MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State baseball coaching staff will hold open tryouts for all interested Northwest students July 13 at the Bearcat Baseball Field. Partcipiants must bring a doctor's physical completed within the past year (365 days) and a copy of their current health insurance card (front and back sides). The evaluation will begin at 11 a.m. at the third base dugout.
BEARCAT TALENT EVALUATION
9:30 a.m. – CHECK IN AND REGISTRATION - ATHLETES STRETCH INDIVIDUALLY
11 a.m. – DISCUSS EVALUATION PROCESS - BEGIN TRYOUT / GROUP STRETCH
60 YARD DASH:
- ALL POSITION PLAYERS
- 2 attempts each
- Catchers run first
PITCHER BULLPENS:
- ALL PITCHERS
- Graded on velocity, breaking ball, change up and mechanics
- ½ in windup, ½ in stretch
- End with 3 fastballs
CATCHERS:
- Graded on receiving mechanics
OUTFIELDERS:
- ALL OUTFIELDERS
- Graded on fielding mechanics, throwing mechanics, throwing velocity
- All throws made from right field to third base
INFIELDERS:
- ALL INFIELDERS:
- Graded on fielding mechanics, throwing mechanics, throwing velocity
- All throws made from deep shortstop
- 1B throw across
- DOUBLE PLAYS after all throws
- SIMULATED PREGAME SHOW
CATCHERS:
- Timed throws to second base
HITTERS:
- ALL HITTERS:
- Graded on bat speed, bunting, right side hitting, line drives with power
EQUIPMENT NEEDED: Pants, jersey (with number), glove, spikes, personal bat if possible, personal catcher’s gear if possible.
