Harvel Earns MIAA Honorable Mention Recognition
MARYVILLE, Mo. - Senior hurler Bret Harvel posted the MIAA's second-best ERA through the end of the regular season and earned conference honorable mention honors from the league's coaches announced today. It's his third postseason accolade from the MIAA after transferring from the University of Missouri after his freshman season in 2006.
Harvel finished with a 2.66 earned run average, the best by a Bearcat pitcher since 1990, with his second straight shutout of the season last Saturday against Pittsburg State. He led the Bearcats with five wins, two complete games, 54 strikeouts and 81.1 innings pitched.
In Northwest career records, Harvel finished fourth with a 3.77 ERA, seventh with 14 wins, fourth with 43 appearances, sixth with eight complete games, second with five shutouts, second with 163 strikeouts and second with 215 innings.
Harvel earned his psychology degree last Saturday and will join Bill Disselhoff this summer on the squad of the St. Joe Mustangs.
