Stice Goes Four-of-Seven in Final Doubleheader of Season

MARYVILLE, Mo. - Matt Stice recorded two hits in both games to improve to 14 multi-hit games as Northwest Missouri State (24-27, 15-21 MIAA) fell to Pittsburg State (15-38, 12-26 MIAA) in the final games for both teams today at Bearcat Field. The Gorillas scored eight runs in both games and held the Bearcats to two runs in game one and six runs in game two.

Northwest held a 2-1 lead after the second inning of game one after both Jon Henne, Jr., and Brandon Kirsch led off the inning with singles and later scored. But Pittsburg State answered with four runs in the third inning and two more in the fifth inning en route to a 8-2 game.

The Bearcats got hits from five different players, led by two from Stice. Danny Malone struck out two batters in three innings of relief in his final collegiate game.

Northwest used another second-inning rally to take a 3-0 lead in game two after Stice drove in the first two runs with a two-out, two-RBI single to left field to drive in Kirsch and Henne, Jr. Kreed Kurtz later scored on a wild pitch from Mitch Cooper.

Pittsburg State replied with four runs in the fourth inning and took a 5-3 lead with another run in the fifth inning. The Bearcats took the lead again with three runs between the fifth and sixth innings before the Gorillas scored the final three runs for a 8-6 victory in the season finale for both squads.

Bill Disselhoff went two-of-three with a double in his final Northwest game while Stice went two-of-four with three RBIs. Stice stole a base in the sixth inning to finish the season with 26, good for seventh in program records.
