Bearcats Face Northern Sun Opponent Wayne State Today
MARYVILLE, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State faces the first of two straight Northern Sun opponents today when No. 28 Wayne State (17-6) visits Bearcat Field for a single, nine-inning game at 3 p.m. It will be the fifth game of a 15 game homestand for the Bearcats (10-17).
The nine home games this season have been good for Matt Stice, who is leading the team with a .393 batting average and eight stolen bases at Bearcat Field this season. He has a six-game hitting streak at home and is one of 12 MIAA players with an overall active hitting streak of five games or longer.
Bill Disselhoff went three-of-six against the Wildcats in two games last season and is projected to make his first pitching start since March 16. He will maintain his spot in the lineup after posting his third three-hit game of the season against Missouri Western March 29.
Brandon Kirsch could make his 100th career start today and join fellow outfielder Chris Benham as the only two active Bearcats with 100 career starts. Kirsch has improved his batting average 44 points during his three-game hitting streak entering today.
Jared Erspamer is making the most of his first season with the baseball team and will most likely make his 14th consecutive start at first base today. Erspamer leads the team with eight doubles and is on pace to finish fourth in season records with 18.
Wayne State is coming off a four-game sweep of Minnesota, Duluth and is 4-2 this season against MIAA opponents. The Wildcats are outscoring opponents by 71 runs this season and are holding opponents to a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 1.66.
