Bearcats Split with Griffons to Wrap Up Series
MARYVILLE, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State snapped it's six-game losing streak with a 6-5 victory in game one before dropping an 8-2 decision in game two as the Bearcats (10-17, 5-13 MIAA) split against Missouri Western (18-14, 7-9 MIAA) today at Bearcat Field.
Brandon Kirsch went two-of-three in game one en route to a four-of-seven performance on the day. He scored his first run in 15 days in the second inning after Kreed Kurtz notched his third home run of the season to cut the Missouri Western lead down to a run at 5-4.
Northwest took the lead in the fourth inning with two runs coming off three hits and a Griffon fielding error. Trevor Theismann recorded his first win of the season and Jacob Kemper picked up his fifth save as the two held Missouri Western to just two hits in the final three innings to claim Northwest's first conference victory in eight games.
Jared Erspamer picked his second double of the day in the second inning of game two and later scored off a single from Kirsch to answer a four-run inning by the Griffons in the top half of the inning. Missouri Western added another four runs and held the Bearcats to a run in the sixth inning for the 8-2 decision.
Up Next: Northwest will face Wayne State Wednesday at 3 p.m. in a single, nine-inning game at Bearcat Field.
