Bearcats Wrap Up Arkansas Trip with Loss to Southern Indiana
MAGNOLIA, Ark. - Northwest Missouri State pitched a one-hitter through the first two innings and retired the first five Southern Indiana batters in order before a leadoff home run in the third inning lead to 10 runs in the next five innings for the Screaming Eagles, who claimed a 10-2 victory at Mulerider Field today. Northwest (4-4) concluded its eight-game season-opening road trip through Arkansas.
The Bearcats earned four of their five hits in the eighth inning which started with a 1-0 single by Brett Harper, who pinch hit for Trevor Theismann. Nick Pfeiffer singled to right field to advance Harper before a double play took out Pfeiffer and batter Jared Erspamer, but allowed Harper to move 90 feet closer to home.
Northwest hit back-to-back two-out doubles, courtesy of Tim Beck and Matt Stice, to score two runs before Bill Disselhoff, who started the game as a pitcher, struck out swinging. Disselhoff took the loss after recording two strikeouts and allowing five hits in 3.1 innings.
Up Next: The Bearcats start the MIAA season next weekend at defending MIAA regular season champion Emporia State. First pitch from the newly-renovated Glennen Field at the Trusler Sports Complex Feb. 28 is 1 p.m.
