No. 4 Muleriders Shut Out Bearcats
MAGNOLIA, Ark. - Northwest Missouri State could only place one baserunner in each of the first four innings and went down in order in the fifth inning before No. 4 Southern Arkansas scored four runs in the top of the fifth en route to a 10-0 shutout tonight at Mulerider Field.
Southern Arkansas (10-3) ended their scoring with a two-run home run in the seventh inning for its first shutout of the season. The Muleriders had two of their 12 hits go for extra bases.
Jon Henne, Jr., picked up his first double of the season in the seventh inning to advance Brandon Kirsch, who was hit by the pitcher on a full count. A single by Nick Pfeiffer to third base held the runners and loaded the bases with no outs for Kreed Kurtz. Schroeder struck out Kurtz and Tim Beck before Matt Stice grounded out to Schroeder, who made the third out unassisted.
Bret Harvel took the loss in his second start of the season. He went 4.1 innings and threw 89 pitches while striking out four batters.
