Disselhoff Throws Complete Game Shutout In Nightcap Against Truman
KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Two home runs in the eighth inning scored the only three runs in game two as Northwest (27-22, 16-16) went on to defeat Truman (8-40, 6-28) 3-0 to split a doubleheader in Kirksville, Mo. The Bulldogs claimed a 9-3 victory in game one with a eight-run fifth inning.
Ryan Bledsoe used the second pitch from Truman's Matt Herrick to record his sixth home run of the year to take the Bearcats to an early 1-0 lead. But an eight-run, six-hit inning allowed Truman to take a 9-3 lead after the fifth.
Nick Pfeiffer went 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead the Bearcats. Ben Malick recorded his 14th double of the season in the fifth inning before eventually scoring.
Bret Harvel took the loss on the mound, moving to 5-2 on the season.
Bledsoe increased his hitting streak to 20 games with a leadoff home run in the eighth inning of a scheduled seven-inning game. Britt Westman followed suit in the same inning with his 14th home run of the season to drive in Malick, providing all the runs the Bearcats would need for the 3-0 shutout.
Bill Disselhoff recorded his second shutout in his fourth complete game of the season, allowing five hits and striking out six batters. He notched his second straight win to move to 4-2.
Pfeiffer went 3-for-4 in his first three-hit performance this season and first since March 31, 2007. Bledsoe picked up his 22nd multiple hit game of the season while Jon Henne, Jr. also recorded two hits for the fifth time this season.
