Critical Series Starts Saturday for Bearcats
MARYVILLE -- Eight games remain in the 2008 season for the Northwest Missouri State baseball team (23-20, 12-14 MIAA), currently sixth place in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Assocation (MIAA) play. The Bearcats host a four-game series against Pittsburg State (17-24, 12-16 MIAA) starting Saturday, April 26, at 10 a.m.
The Bearcats need to finish fourth or better in conference to qualify for the MIAA tournament, held in Kansas City, Kan. at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
Missouri Western and Missouri Southern, who Northwest split with during conference action, sits fourth and fifth in the standings. The Griffons and Lions matchup against each other this weekend in Joplin, Mo.
Ryan Bledsoe has been red hot for the Bearcats, hitting .448 with four home runs and 11 doubles during his current 14-game hitting streak. Bledsoe has 17 doubles on the season, five shy of the single season record set by Scott Spurgeon in 1998.
