Disselhoff Mows Down Lions
MARYVILLE - The Northwest Missouri State baseball team run ruled Missouri Southern 10-0 in seven innings and got a great pitching performance from Bill Disselhoff. The Kansas City native tossed 81 pitches, allowed three hits and struck out eight in sevens innings of work.
The win improves Northwest to 18-13 (8-8 MIAA) and drops the Lions to 12-20 (10-8 MIAA).
The Bearcats dented the scoreboard early with five runs in the second. Brandon Kirsch started the rally with a single to left field and Kreed Kurtz followed with a looping liner to center. An error loaded the bases for Northwest and Chris Benham come through slapping a single to right scoring Kirsch.
A Ben Malick two-out, RBI-double completed the scoring for the Bearcats in the second. The Bearcats took advantage of two Lion's errors, scoring four unearned runs in the inning.
Disselhoff would retire the first seven batters he faced and Benham would cut down the first base runner trying to stretch a single into a double at second. Disselhoff struck out at least one batter in every inning and got a 6-4-3 double play in the seventh. Only once did the Lions have more than one base runner, coming in the third, but Disselhoff fanned CJ Matthews to end any scoring threat.
Northwest added three runs in the sixth, all with two outs and nobody on. Trevor Conner started the rally with a stand-up triple to center field and Malick completed the scoring with his 11th double of the season.
A double steal in the seventh ended the game in the seventh as Conner scored from third and Benham took second base.
Kirsch finished 3-for-4 and scored two runs, while Malick was 2-for-3 with three RBI's. Eight of the Bearcats nine players collected a hit.
The Bearcats will be back in action Tuesday, April 8, in St. Joseph, Mo. Game one will be seven innings and the nightcap will be nine with the double header starting at 4 p.m.
