Not Enough Long Balls in Loss to Tigers
HAYS, Kan. - The Northwest Missouri State baseball team lost a slugfest 13-9 against the Fort Hays State Tigers, despite knocking three home runs. The Bearcats smacked three home runs, but Fort Hays knocked out four.
Northwest drops to 15-10 (5-5 MIAA) and the Tigers move to 9-15 (6-6 MIAA).
The Bearcats fell behind in the first after the Tigers plated three runs, but a Brandon Kirsch leadoff home run in the second started the scoring for Northwest. Jake Bradshaw then smacked a two-out, 3-run home run to right field four batters later.
A grand slam by Kreed Kurtz in the third extended the Bearcats lead to 8-3. Fort Hays tallied three more runs in the bottom half to cut into Northwest's lead.
Starter Bill Disselhoff logged the first 5 2/3 and shutout the Tigers the last 2 2/3 innings he pitched.
In the seventh, Fort Hays sent 11 batters to the plate, hit two home runs and scored seven runs to take a 13-9 lead.
Northwest will host Missouri Western on April 1 at 2 p.m. in a doubleheader. The first game is seven innings with a nine to follow.
