Bats Explode in Sweep of SBU
BOLIVAR, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State baseball team swept conference foe Southwest Baptist 9-5 and 18-6 from Dodson field, scoring 27 runs on 32 hits in 14 innings. The Bearcats improve to 11-4 (3-1 MIAA) and drop SBU to 3-11 (1-5 MIAA).
Northwest trailed 1-0 after three complete, but plated three runs in the fourth to take the lead. Brandon Krisch smacked a two-run home run and Bill Disselhoff knocked out a solo shot.
The purple Bearcats would regain the lead scoring three in the fifth and one in the six and led 5-3 heading into the last frame. In the seventh, Chris Benham started the rally with a triple to center field. The first five batters reached and 11 batters would come to the plate in the six run seventh.
Nick Pfeiffer finished 3-for-4 and Ben Malick drove in three RBI's in his 2-for-4 performance. Brett Harvel went the first five innings, strikout out seven, but Ben Stedronsky would pick up the victory logging one inning.
Northwest carried the seventh inning over to game two, scoring 15 runs in the first three innings, including 11 in the third. Northwest took advantage of costly SBU error in the third, making all 11 runs unearned.
The Bearcats gave up three runs in the fourth and sixth, but Jeff Gradel Jr. pitched with a very comfortable lead and picked up the victory. Gradel logged six innings and struck out eight moving him to 2-0 on the season.
Six Bearcats had multi-hit games led by Ryan Bledsoe, Pfieffer, Kirsch and Trevor Conner, who all posted three hit games. The Bearcats had a season-high 20 hits.
