Westman Homers Again in 9-2 Win
PENSACOLA, Fla.- Britt Westman homered for the fourth time in four games and the Bearcats ended West Florida's seven-game win streak with a 7-2 victory Tuesday at Pelican Park. The Bearcats (4-3) have won four in a row and will play the final two games of a three-game series with the Argonauts (9-7) Wednesday starting at 3 p.m.
Westman's 26th career home run came in the first inning and provided the first three runs of the game. He drew a bases loaded walk in the eighth inning to pick up his 161st career RBI, tying the Bearcats all-time mark with John Sipes.
Danny Malone (1-0) earned his first start of the season and made it a quality one. He struck out four in seven solid innings, scattered seven hits and allowed two runs.
Northwest caused havoc on the base paths with six stolen bases, three from the speedy legs of Chris Benham. A Nick Pfeiffer RBI-single added a run in the sixth and gave Northwest a 5-2 lead. Northwest then blew the game open in the eighth and ninth with a pair of runs in each inning.
In the seventh, Northwest turned a 4-6-3 double-play and shot down a possible Argonaut comeback. Northwest played perfect defense for the fourth time this season.
Ben Stedronsky made his third appearance, logged the last two innings, struck out a trio of Argonauts.
Five Bearcat batters finished with multi-hit games led by Pfeiffer's 3-for-4 performance. Ryan Bledose, Kreed Kurtz, Benham and Trevor Connor all finished with two hits. Kurtz led off the ninth with a solo shot to center, his third long ball of the season.
