Westman Brothers Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

MARYVILLE - Northwest Missouri State baseball senior catcher Ryley Westman (Smithville, Mo.) was named to the 2007 CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII Baseball First Team, announced today, May 10. Junior first baseman Britt Westman (Smithville, Mo.) garnered second-team All-District VII honors. Ryley will move on to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.

Ryley graduated in Spring 2007 with a 3.61 grade point average with a Bachelor's Degree and Cum Laude in Public Relations. He currently leads the team in hitting (.339), at-bats (192) and hits (65). In career records, he stands second in games played (205), third in at-bats (649), third in doubles (45), fourth in RBIs (137), fourth in hits (208) and 10th in runs scored (115). Entering the MIAA Tournament, Ryley needs two hits to enter the Northwest season Top 10 charts.

Britt carries a 3.84 grade point average in recreation and park management. He leads the squad in RBIs (53), triples (4), total bases (110) and walks (29). Britt has started every game of his career (160) dating back to the 2005 season and his 11-game hitting streak from April 15-28 is tied for the longest this season. Britt currently stands seventh in season records for RBIs, sixth in walks and 10th in total bases.

The Westman brothers will join the rest of the Bearcats in the MIAA Tournament this weekend. Northwest took the No. 3 seed and will face No. 2 seed Emporia State at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 11 in Warrensburg, Mo.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
