Bearcats Get Silenced by Wayne State 8-2

MARYVILLE, Mo. - ( stats) Wayne (Neb.) State pitchers combined for a five-hit victory and retired 12 straight Bearcats at one point to take down Northwest Missouri State 8-2 this afternoon from Bearcat Field in non-conference baseball action. Wayne State plated five runs in the final three innings to wipe out any chance of a Bearcat comeback on a rain-soaked day.

Northwest hit quickly scoring the game's first run on a Britt Westman RBI-single in the bottom of the first. Then the Wildcats shook up Northwest starter Bill Disselhoff in the fifth inning. Disselhoff had been cruising through four frames allowing just three singles however WSC struck for three runs on four hits grabbing a 3-1 lead in the fifth.

Sophomore Ben Malick drove in sophomore Chris Benham on an RBI-double in the bottom of the fifth to cut the deficit to 3-2 however the Wayne State pitchers were superb in the game's final four innings.

WSC hurler Connor Bramlet pitched three perfect innings of middle relief to help shut down the Bearcat offense. Ryan Kolo was credited with the win as he went 2.0 innings giving up one run on two hits. Disselhoff fell to 1-2 for the Bearcats in the losing effort as he pitched 6 1/3 innings allowing four runs, three earned, on eight hits. He struck out three and did not walk a batter.

Malick finished with two doubles going 2-for-4 overall and 1 RBI while Britt Westman also went 2-for-4 with 1 run-batted-in. Joe Wendte and Marc Manganaro both compiled 3-for-4 efforts for the guests from Wayne State.

Northwest, now 10-11 on the season, is scheduled to host Fort Hays (Kan.) State at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 23 from Bearcat Field.
