Westman Signs With Slippery Rock Sliders

MARYVILLEFormer Northwest Missouri State baseball player Ryley Westman ’07 recently signed a contract with the Slippery Rock Sliders Professional Baseball Team of the Frontier League. The organization is based out of Slippery Rock, Pa.

Westman earned first-team All-MIAA and second-team All-Central Region honors as a catcher this past season for the Bearcats. He hit a team-best .341 with four home runs and 41 RBIs.

Westman ended his career third on Northwest’s all-time hits list with 213. His 70 hits in 2007 are the sixth-most in program history.

Began in 1993, the Frontier League is an independent professional baseball league featuring 12 teams in seven Midwestern states. The league has seen over 450 players signed by Major League Baseball organizations, with 14 of these players appearing in MLB regular season games.

Former Major Leaguer Greg Jelks skippers the Sliders in their inaugural season. Jelks is coming off a championship season with the league’s Evansville Otters.
