Bearcat Baseball Ranked Eighth in Central Region Poll
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Northwest baseball team sits No. 8 in the latest NCAA Division II Regional Poll, released yesterday. Northwest was one of six teams from the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) to be honored in the top-10 field. The top-six in the final regional rankings move on to the regional tournament on May 18-21.
MIAA regular season champion Emporia State holds down the No. 1 spot in the region. Central Missouri State came in at No. 4, dropping from third the week before, after nearly being swept by the Bearcats in a four-game series last weekend in Maryville, Mo.
Northwest ended the season 26-23 overall, going 14-15 in the MIAA for a fifth-place finish in regular season standings. The Bearcats recorded 122 doubles, one short from the team season record, and entered school and MIAA record books with 13 doubles in the first game against Upper Iowa on April 21.
Head coach Darin Loe won his 200th game at Northwest with a 3-0 victory over Washburn on May 2, the last game of an 11-game win streak dating back to April 15. The streak was the longest since an equal streak from March 27-April 5, 1989.
