Northwest Wins Slugfest Over Peru State
MARYVILLE, Mo. - (stats) There was a combined 25 runs, 32 hits and five errors in today's game between Northwest Missouri State and Peru State in baseball action. The Bearcats were victorious at home for the third time this season, 15-10.
Despite the wind blowing in, offense was not much of a problem, with Northwest belting two home runs. Sophomore Britt Westman (Smithville, Mo.) hit is second, while senior Will Newland (Ottawa, Kan.) put his first one over the fence.
Five Bearcats had multiple hits in the game, with Westman and junior Sergio Davila (Douglas, Ariz.) leading the way going three-for-four. Davila had three RBIs and scored a run, while Westman knocked in four RBIs and scored twice.
There was also a combined nine extra base hits in the game, with Peru State hitting three doubles and going around for a triple. Meanwhile, the Bearcats had three doubles and had the two home runs.
The Bearcat pitching staff was led by junior Cody Sinclair (Indianola, Iowa), who pitched (1-0) his Northwest career high 5.1 innings, giving up three hits, one run, walking one and striking out five. Between the fifth and eighth innings, Sinclair retired nine straight. His only run he gave up came during his first inning of relief in the fifth.
Northwest is now a game under .500 at 5-6, while Peru State falls 4-11. The next action for the Bearcats is Saturday against Wayne State College for a pair of seven inning games at noon. Both Wayne State and Northwest will return to Maryville for a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
