Northwest Snaps Three Game Losing Streak
MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The Northwest Missouri State baseball team snapped its three game losing streak today with a victory over the University of Montevallo, 6-4.
Montevallo got on the board first with a run in the second, and Northwest finally pushed its first run across in the fifth to tie the game up at one. The game went back and fourth in the fifth and sixth innings. The Falcons took their last lead in the sixth inning at 4-2. However, thank to error with two outs by Montevallo, Northwest scored four unearned runs on starter Rusty Mask, to push its run total up to six.
Senior Will Newland (Ottawa, Kan.) and junior Tristan Stewart (Crystal Lake, Ill.) both led the team with a pair of hits. Junior Sergio Davila (Douglas, Ariz.) tied a game-high with two RBIs, while sophomore Britt Westman (Smithville, Mo.) hit the games first home run in fifth inning, to lead the Bearcat offense. It was Westman's first home run of the season.
Northwest was again saved by the bullpen, after junior Matt Kelly (Maryville, Mo.) was pulled from the game in the fifth inning. Junior Brian Lamers (Riverside, Calif.) picked up the win moving to 2-0 on the year after pitched 2.2 innings, giving up two runs all earned and sitting down two. Junior Brett Whittle (Wichita, Kan.) got the two inning save, his first on the year.
The Bearcats will wrap up the spring road trip tomorrow with the rubber match against the Falcons at noon. Northwest goes to 2-4 on the year, while Montevallo falls back to .500 at 8-8.
