Baseball Signs Two Junior-College Athletes
MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State baseball team and head coach Darin Loe have announced the signing of two junior-college athletes.
Sophomore Stevie Bush (Blue Springs, Mo.) comes from St. Louis Community College at Meramec. Junior Brett Whittle (Wichita, Kan.) will transfer in from Independence (Kan.) Community College.
Last season, Bush had a .311 batting average, with 52 hits and 26 RBI. Of his 52 hits, he had 13 doubles and hit one homerun.
Bush is an infielder and will start his Northwest baseball career in the spring of 2007. Bush is the team captain at St. Louis Community College at Meramec and was also the team captain at Blue Springs High School. He also set the singles record in a season for his summer league team.
"He will be one of the offensive players that will fill some voids due to graduation next season," Loe says. "He is a strong hitter and has a strong arm and just a very good athlete."
Whittle is a reliever who will be eligible to play at Northwest in the spring after earning many honors at Great Bend High School. He was named first team all-conference and second team all-state during his senior year in 2003. He was also named AAA American Legion All-Star during the summer of his junior and senior year.
"He is a relief specialist and had a great junior college career," Loe says. "He will help us out in the bullpen this season."
In his final season at Independence, Whittle had a 4.61 ERA, was 5-3, started 10 games and had a team leading two complete games. In 54.2 innings, batters only hit .258 and he was tied for fourth on the team in strike outs with 26.
