Northwest Sits No. 3 in North Central Region
MARYVILLE, Mo. -- The Northwest Missouri State University baseball team was ranked No. 3 in the NCAA Division II Central Region Poll, announced yesterday. The Bearcats are 33-19 overall and 20-7 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.
The 'Cats will play at No. 4 Central Missouri State, who is ranked first in the central region, on May 6-7 for a three-game series. Northwest will have to sweep Central to have a chance to claim the MIAA regular season title. Central sits atop the MIAA standings with a three-game cushion over Northwest at 23-4. The Bearcats, along with Missouri Western and Emporia State, all play this weekend to determine the seeding in the MIAA Tournament which takes place May 12-13 at the No. 1 seed. The top four seeds advance to the league Tournament. The need for a tiebreaker will be decided after Saturday's games.
If needed, the Bearcats will continue the suspended Apr. 5th game (rain) at Emporia on Monday, May 9 at 5:00 p.m. for the tiebreaker. The game will be continued from the top of the third inning with Northwest leading 6-4. The top four regionally ranked teams after the conference tournament will advance to the NCAA Division II Regionals at the No. 1 regional team.
Northwest and Central begin their series with a single 9-inning game at 7 p.m. on Friday and continue with a twinbill starting at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
