Bearcats End Series with 13-2 Win Over Missouri Southern
MARYVILLE, Mo. - No. 27 Northwest Missouri State ended its series with Missouri Southern on a 13-2 win. The regularly scheduled nine-inning contest was ended after six and a half innings with the 10-run rule. The 'Cats stand at 22-14 overall and 9-3 in the MIAA. The Lions dropped to 15-20 overall and 6-7 in the conference.
The Bearcats had two hot innings at bat. The game started with four hits by the Bearcats in the bottom of the first inning including a grand slam by Tristan Stewart who garnered five RBI on the game. Kyle Gallagher had one of his three hits in the first inning.
Northwest scored another five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, led off by a single by Will Newland. Pat Whitt hit a triple to right field as the 'Cats had four hits in the inning.
Whitt was 3-for-4 in the game and batted in three runs. The Bearcats added up 15 hits in the game and made no fielding errors. Matt Coons (2-2) took the win for the 'Cats. He pitched six innings and allowed one run (earned). Coons struck out five batters and walked three.
Northwest looks to face Washburn at home on Tues., Apr. 12 at 1:00 p.m. (2-7). The Bearcats will travel to Pittsburg State this weekend for a three-game series.
