Northwest Defeated Northeastern in Season-Opener, 12-5, Second game Postponed
TAHLEQUAH, Okla . -- Northwest Missouri State defeated Northeastern State today in its season-opener, 12-5. The 'Cats held the Redmen scoreless for the first six innings of the seven-inning match and had eight players (all fielding starters) with at least one hit.
The Bearcats are 1-0 on the season and the Redmen are 1-2 with a split versus Arkansas Tech under their belt.
Northwest had 13 hits for its 12 runs and garnered four errors on the day. Northeastern had only eight hits, four of which were in the last inning. Senior Brett Bognar claimed the win after pitching six innings and striking out four. Mike McKey took the loss for the Redmen.
Senior Kyle Gallagher had a game-high three hits made up by a triple, double and single.
The second game scheduled for today (Feb. 12) was moved to tomorrow on account of inclement weather. Northwest will play a double-header on Sun., Feb. 13 versus Northeastern beginning at 12:00 p.m.
