WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- The Northwest Missouri State baseball team wrapped up the 2004 season, falling to Central Missouri State, 15-3, in the championship game of the MIAA Tournament Sunday afternoon. Northwest finishes the season with a mark of 34-23. Central Missouri State jumped on starter Will Newland (So., Ottawa, Kan.) early, scoring three runs in each of the first two innings. Newland, making his first collegiate start, lasted one and two-third innings before handing things over to the Bearcat bullpen. After allowing a single run in the third, the Bearcats plated three runs on back-to-back bases-loaded walks and a wild pitch. Those three runs were the only three runs the CMSU pitching staff allowed in their three games this weekend. The Mules scored six runs in the ninth, including a grand slam, to pull away for the 15-3 win. |
